Report: Vick almost broke

Michael Vick is close to being broke.

The Eagles quarterback has spent nearly 30 of his $31 million in earnings since filing for bankruptcy in 2008, according to TMZ.

Vick’s earnings include his Eagles salary, various endorsements and other business ventures, according to legal documents filed in his bankruptcy case. He has paid out a total of $29.6 million ($10.9 million to taxes, $9.2 million to creditors and $2.7 million to lawyers and accountants) and the rest for expenses such as child support and living expenses, according to the site.

Vick, who led the Eagles to a 19-17 win over the Giants on Sunday night, signed a six-year, $100 million contract with the Eagles last year, $12.5 million guaranteed, so his finances could turn around. But according to TMZ, Vick only has roughly $1.5 million remaining.

In 2009 when Vick, 32, got out of prison where he spent 21 months on dog fighting charges, his lawyers accepted a “reorganization plan” to help pay off debts. He currently has to pay two-thirds of every dollar earned to creditors as part of the order, according to USA Today. Vick also was given living expenses of $300,000 per year to cover rent, vehicles and schooling for his children, among other items.

A representative for Vick told USA Today the creditors, which include his former team the Falcons, could be paid off by 2014. The court-ordered budget runs through 2015. However, both of those plans could be nixed if the Eagles release Vick before the end of that six-year deal.

Last year’s 8-8 finish was a disappointment, but 2010, Vick’s first season back, he went to the Pro Bowl and led Philadelphia to the playoffs.

Vick has led the Eagles to a 3-1 record this season.
