Benghazi attack coverup: Hold our pols accountable

The Issue: How the Obama administration has handled the fallout over the attack in Libya on Sept. 11.

Had President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton not pandered to Middle East extremists with apologies and instead used the words “terrorist” and “terrorism” in their speeches, conditions would not have deteriorated to such an extreme (“The Wheels Come Off,” Michael Walsh, PostOpinion, Oct. 1).

The current situation is the direct result of their policies.

We cannot allow four more years of lies, deceit and misuse of our hard-earned money.

It’s time those in this administration were fired, for their violation of the public trust.

The administration has been allergic to the word “terrorist” since Day One.

Even more egregious are Clinton’s rules of engagement for our embassies in dangerous parts of the world. Security was outsourced to a private British firm that used unarmed guards, and our Marines were commanded to take the bullets out of their guns.

There is also evidence of warnings of a strike and that Ambassador Chris Stevens was consistently worried about al Qaeda.

These actions are unconscionable. There must be a congressional investigation, as they could be grounds for impeachment.

Once again, Obama, Clinton and the Democrats get a free pass from the media. Herb Eichen

When will the Senate call for an investigation into the lack of security at the Benghazi outpost?

Anyone following the series of lies and doublespeak can smell a coverup.

A president who does not attend security briefings deserves much more scrutiny than he has received from Congress and the press.

It’s convenient that with the collaboration of Libyan President Mohammed el-Megarif, our FBI cannot collect forensic evidence to implicate al Qaeda in this attack.

Osama bin Laden may be dead, but his jihad against America isn’t.

The Obama administration dropped the ball and deserves to be held accountable — before the election.

Imagine that the sitting administration intentionally misleads the American people about almost every detail of an attack in an obvious attempt at a coverup.

Imagine that this coverup reflects a conscious determination by the administration to put its own political security ahead of our national security.

Can there be a more damaging indictment against a president?

To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of al Qaeda’s death are greatly exaggerated.

The killing of our ambassador was a terrorist attack, not a spontaneous demonstration, as claimed by UN Ambassador Susan Rice.

Why is it too unsafe to send the FBI into Libya, and yet they had no clue about the attacks beforehand?

Why are there no reports of any casualties among the attackers — was our side unarmed, or ordered not to fire?

Obama’s incompetence is unbelievable.

Mitt Romney’s initial instincts were right and, as the facts have been made available, we now know that our government was ill-prepared to deal with the crisis.

To make matters worse, the Obama administration went to great pains to misdirect our people and further weakened our position by submitting more apologies for an incident that called for a stand against extremism.

Unless Obama is defeated, we may never know what happened in Benghazi, where it is still unsafe to place an armed group of investigators, but where it was fine for our unarmed and unprotected ambassador to be on Sept. 11, of all days.
