WEST BABYLON, NY — A Long Island woman is dead after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver while walking on Sunrise Highway.
Suffolk County police say the accident happened at 1:42 a.m. Sunday in West Babylon.
Police say 30-year-old Jennifer Wheeler of North Lindenhurst was left lying on the roadside. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives believe Wheeler was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene.
