Honda in fiery recall

TOKYO — Honda is recalling more than 488,000 CR-V crossovers for fear that rain or other liquids could cause an electrical-switch meltdown in the driver’s-side door and spark a fire.

The automaker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the recall Saturday for 268,000 vehicles in the United States, 220,000 in Europe and 98 in Africa, all model years 2002 to ’06, a spokeswoman said.

Four fires have been reported in the US and one in England, where the cars were made, she added.
