NASCAR: Kenseth tops at Talladega

Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth won at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, where a last-lap crash turned defending NASCAR champion Tony Stewart upside down. Michael Waltrip hooked Stewart’s bumper, and it triggered a massive accident that sent Stewart’s car sailing on its side over the field. NASCAR threw the caution and Kenseth coasted to the victory. Jeff Gordon finished second and Kyle Busch was third.

Sebastian Vettel won the Japanese Grand Prix from the pole to close within four points of Formula One championship leader Fernando Alonso, who crashed out of the race at the first turn.

GOLF: Moore captures Las Vegas title

Ryan Moore won the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas for his second PGA Tour title, finishing with a 5-under 66 for a one-stroke victory over Brendon de Jonge. John Daly, tied for sixth at 10-under after a season-best 63 on Friday, followed with an 86 on Saturday and a 77 yesterday to finish last at 11-over 295.

Bernhard Langer won the SAS Championship in Cary, N.C., to take the lead in the Charles Schwab Cup points race, beating Jay Don Blake by two strokes.

Branden Grace won his fourth European Tour event of the season by shooting a 2-under 70 to protect his lead and win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St. Andrews, Scotland, by two shots over Thorbjorn Olesen of Denmark.

U.S. Amateur champion Steven Fox and Chris Williams each shot 2-under 69 to help the U.S. win the World Amateur Team Championship in Antalya, Turkey.

NHL: Talks likely to resume Wednesday

The NHL and the players’ association are expected to resume labor negotiations this week in New York. A union spokesman said the sides are likely to meet Wednesday and Thursday. The lockout reached its 22nd day yesterday.

TENNIS: Djokovic, Azarenka take China Open

Top-seeded Novak Djokovic extended his perfect record at the China Open when he defeated third-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France 7-6 (4), 6-2 in the final. On the women’s side, top-seeded Victoria Azarenka won her fifth title of the year, defeating second-seeded Maria Sharapova 6-3, 6-1. … Eighth-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan beat Milos Raonic of Canada 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-0 to win the Japan Open.

etc.: Tracy resigns as Rockies skipper

Rockies manager Jim Tracy resigned after Colorado finished last in the NL West this year and set a franchise record for losses while going 64-98. The Rockies went 294-308 in four seasons under Tracy, who was the 2009 NL Manager of the Year.

Tsegaye Kebede of Ethiopia won the Chicago Marathon in 2 hours, 4 minutes, 38 seconds. Atsede Baysa won the women’s race in 2:22.03.

Simon Augustus scored 21 points as the visiting Minnesota Lynx held off the Los Angeles Sparks 80-79 to advance to the WNBA finals. The Lynx, who swept the series 2-0, await the Eastern champ, either Connecticut or Indiana.
