Those magical jobless numbers

The Issue: The unemployment rate dropping to 7.8 percent for the first time in President Obama’s term.

***

What an amazing coincidence that after President Obama got his butt kicked in the debate, the United States’ unemployment rate dropped below 8 percent for the first time in four years (“Romney Says Unemployment Drop to 7.8 Percent ‘Not What Real Recovery Looks Like,’” Oct. 5).

Lying and manipulating job numbers for political gain is perfectly in line with this president’s character.

Isn’t it just miraculous how unemployment suddenly dropped to 7.8 percent almost immediately after Obama got pummeled in the first debate?

It’s funny, because I know plenty of college and law-school graduates who can’t find jobs, people in the financial sector who are being laid off, as well as others who are working well beneath their professional qualifications.

I also know a few college graduates who are bagging groceries to pay their bills, pumping that $4-per-gallon gasoline because they got laid off from their real job just a few short months ago, as well as people who’ve had to take on boarders in their homes in order to afford their mortgage.

I didn’t know things were so great out there. I’m glad the Labor Department gave us such good news right before the election.

It’s so encouraging and somehow even magical.
