NJ train hits & kills man

RED BANK, NJ — A Manhattan-bound train carrying some 200 passengers fatally struck a man at a central Jersey railroad crossing, NJ Transit officials said yesterday.

The accident occurred at about 9:15 p.m. Saturday in Red Bank. Witnesses said the man made no effort to avoid the train as the engineer blew its horn and applied the emergency brakes.

None of the North Jersey Coast Line train’s passengers was hurt, officials said.
