Bernie’s bribe job plain ugly

You blew being secretary of Homeland Security for this, Bernie?

The $255,000 in renovations for ex-NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik’s Bronx apartment — which he didn’t pay for — were decidedly unspectacular, leaving the joint looking like a hotel room or discount furniture showroom, prosecutors revealed yesterday in Bronx Supreme Court.

A photo of the renovations was shown to jurors at the trial of Kerik’s former cronies, brothers Frank and Peter DiTommaso, who are charged with lying to a grand jury when they said their company didn’t foot the bill for the rehab job to Kerik’s Riverdale condo in 1999.

Kerik’s mendacity on that — and many other issues — destroyed his nomination by then-President George W. Bush in 2004 to become head of the Department of Homeland Security, and led to his current four-year federal prison term.
