Bad cop a far ‘cry’ from dad

A second-generation cop was sentenced yesterday to a year and a day in the slammer for joining in a corrupt smuggling scheme.

John Mahoney, 27, broke down in tears as he apologized for letting down his family, the NYPD and his community.

Manhattan federal Judge Richard Sullivan noted that Mahoney “only had to look [to his dad] to see an example of what a police officer is supposed to be.”
