Officer Peter Figoski went down the stairs leading to the basement. His partner, Glenn Estrada, was outside the Brooklyn house, struggling with a suspect who had run out. Estrada heard a gunshot, then saw someone else emerging from the basement — and chased and caught him. It was only afterward that Estrada learned that his partner had been gunned down.

The man Estrada collared, Lamont Pride, has been accused of killing Figoski, the devoted father of four daughters. He is awaiting trial.

The partners had responded on Dec. 12, 2011, to a call for a burglary in progress in Cypress Hills.

As he ran four blocks pursuing the fleeing man, Estrada radioed directions and that the man had a gun.

He and other officers nabbed the suspect. “Right after we put the handcuffs on,’’ Estrada heard a call for an ambulance on the radio.

“I had a nervous feeling something bad happened,’’ he recalls. “I took my cellphone and tried to call Pete. I ran back to the location, and that’s when I found out.’’

“I can’t underscore how great a man he was,’’ added Estrada, who was nominated for a New York Post Liberty Medal in the Finest category by the NYPD.

He says he’s grateful for “the outpouring of support from the NYPD and the public in general and all the contributions for the daughters’ college funds.’’
