Jailed Sloot to be a pop

AMSTERDAM — Joran van der Sloot, a former suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba, has impregnated a woman while imprisoned in Peru, it was reported yesterday.

The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf cited his lawyer, Maximo Altez, as saying the pregnancy is past its third month, and van der Sloot himself as having confirmed the news Saturday.

“A test has proved” the pregnancy, the paper quoted van der Sloot, a Dutch citizen, as saying.

The woman, identified only as “Leidi,” was said to have become pregnant during an unsupervised visit at the Lima prison where he is serving a 28-year sentence for the 2010 murder of Stephany Flores, a Peruvian woman he met at a casino.

Media last year identified a Leydi Figueroa Uceda as his girlfriend. Altez then described the two as “friends.”

In De Telegraaf, van der Sloot said “Leidi” would not have an abortion.
