The Issue: The administration’s attempts to push an investigation of the attack in Libya until after the election.

Are the failures of our government to protect our consulate in Libya, the death of our ambassador and three other Americans there, the burning of the American flag, the violation of our sovereignty and the lies that followed not enough to call for the impeachment of whoever allowed this to happen (“Benghazi Blame Game,” Editorial, Oct. 7)?

Where did the buck stop? Did the fog of election change our priorities?

Did the anniversary of 9/11 remind us to undertake extreme preventive measures knowing that terrorists are still bent on harming us?

Déjà vu is an often overused phrase, but in this case, it is accurate.

In 1993, during the Battle of Mogadishu — also known as Black Hawk Down — the US task force requested additional resources, such as armored vehicles and a tank.

These were denied by then-Defense Secretary Les Aspin. The threat was unrecognized or ignored because of political priorities, just as it was with the Benghazi attack.
