Dean trial opens

Jury selection begins today in the Brooklyn federal court trial of a former St. John’s University dean accused of forcing students to work as her servants for nearly 20 years.

Cecilia Chang, a former dean of Asian Studies, also used school funds to pay her gambling debts while disguising the payments as legitimate business expenses, feds say in new court filings. Her attorneys insist Chang will be vindicated of wrongdoing at her trial.

She stands charged with coercing college students into cooking and cleaning in her home on the threat of losing their scholarships if they refused.
