Veep debate no second fiddle

WASHINGTON — This year’s vice-presidential debate is suddenly a high-stakes bout.

Mitt Romney’s big win against President Obama last week in their first debate upped the ante for the face-off Thursday between Paul Ryan and Vice President Joe Biden in Kentucky.

Democrats insist Biden isn’t trying to make up for Obama’s debate loss. But Biden is hunkered down at his Delaware home for four days of debate prep. Ryan will try to keep the GOP momentum going after Romney’s impressive debate performance.

“He raised the bar quite high,” Ryan told WJR radio in Detroit. “Mitt definitely put the pressure on from that perspective.”
