Inside pitch

HERO

Wei-Yin Chen (above) had plenty of playoff experience in Japan, but last night was his first time in a postseason game in the majors — and he looked like he belonged.

Over 6 1/3 innings, the southpaw gave up eight hits, but only two runs (one earned) against what looked to be a fearsome Yankees lineup. When he did get into trouble, he was consistently able to make pitches to avoid serious damage.

ZERO

Even when Alex Rodriguez hit the ball hard, nothing good happened for the Yankees third baseman. He lined into a double play in the first inning on his way to a 1-for-5 night with two strikeouts, including one to end the game.

KEY PLAY

Chris Davis’ single to right drove in two runs in the third inning and gave the Orioles a lead they would never give up.
