WATCH: WWE Superstar CM Punk punches fan in stands

Things escalated quickly on Monday night’s episode of Raw.

Following the show’s main event, WWE Champion CM Punk went into the crowd, where fans groped and began to touch the Chicago native as he was receiving a tongue lashing from WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

According to a statement released by the WWE and obtained by The Post, Punk was being heckled and physically assaulted by fans and that there should have been proper security present in the crowd.

“During last night’s Raw televised event, WWE Superstar CM Punk exited the ring into the stands as part of the show,” The statement reads.

“WWE security was unfortunately not in the appropriate place at the time. Given CM Punk’s persona as a ‘bad guy,’ fans were naturally heckling him, but unfortunately a few fans began shoving him and one struck in him in the kidney and on the back. WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment. Other than this isolated incident, WWE always provides proper security to ensure the safety of our fans and our performers.”

Punk can be seen turning and punching the bald, goateed man twice in the short video. Punk has gone into the crowd several times throughout his WWE tenure, including celebrating with a group at last year’s Survivor Series pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden, where he won the WWE Championship.

According to TMZ.com the victim met with police following the incident but did not appear to have any major injuries and they are determining whether or not to conduct a full investigation into the matter.
