TENNIS: Djokovic tops Murray

In a rematch of the U.S. Open finalists, Novak Djokovic saved five match points in the second set before outlasting two-time defending champion Andy Murray 5-7, 7-6 (11), 6-3 in the Shanghai Masters final. Murray beat Djokovic in five sets at Flushing Meadows.

Top-ranked Victoria Azarenka won her sixth WTA title of the season by beating Julia Goerges 6-3, 6-4 at the Generali Ladies in Linz, Austria.

AUTOS: Vettel drives to victory

Sebastian Vettel, closing in on a third straight Formula One title, won the Korean Grand Prix to move ahead of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso in the F-1 championship standings by six points with four races remaining. Mark Webber finished second, 8.2 seconds back. Alonso was third.

NFL: Fan stabbed at Candlestick

Two suspects were arrested for attacking a 27-year-old San Francisco-area man who was seriously wounded after being stabbed near Candlestick Park before yesterday’s NFL game against the Giants. Police said the victim and his attackers were all 49ers fans.

Alameda Ta’amu, a rookie with the Steelers, was arrested early yesterday after authorities allege that he fled police and crashed into parked cars while driving drunk in Pittsburgh’s South Side. Police said the 6-foot-3, 348-pounder tried to flee on foot before he was restrained.

The Vikings will be the host team for a game against a unnamed opponent at London’s Wembley Stadium sometime next year. The NFL, for the first time, will play two regular-season games in London next year. The 49ers and Jaguars will play on Oct. 27, 2013.

GOLF: Funk wins in Carolina

Fred Funk won the Greater Hickory Classic for his second Champions Tour title of the year and eighth overall, holing a two-foot birdie putt on the final hole to beat Duffy Waldorf by a stroke in Conover, N.C.

Sweden’s Jonas Blixt won the Frys.com Open for his first PGA Tour title, holing a 4-foot par putt on the final hole for a one-stroke victory in San Martin, Calif. Tim Petrovic and Jason Kokrak tied for second.

Shane Lowry of Ireland won the Portugal Masters after a final-round 5-under 66 to edge out England’s Ross Fisher by one stroke.

Jim Woodward eagled the final hole to win the Senior PGA Professional National Championship in Aldie, Va.

WNBA: Indy wins Game 1

Erlana Larkins had 16 points and 15 rebounds and the Indiana Fever stunned defending champion Minnesota with a 76-70 victory over the Lynx in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals in Minneapolis. Game 2 in the best-of-five series is Wednesday night in Minneapolis.
