Jets blitz

HERO

Shonn Greene busted out of the witness protection program with by far his biggest day of the year, romping for a career-high 161 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries against the Colts’ overmatched defense. At least for one day, Ground & Pound was back in a big way thanks to the Jets’ much-maligned big back.

UNSUNG HERO

You won’t see Nick Mangold’s name on the stats sheet this morning, but he might have had the most impressive day of anyone considering the Pro Bowl center was playing on a bum ankle that would have sidelined a lot of other players yet still led the way as Gang Green ran for 252 yards and mauled the Colts up front.

ZERO

A week after his monster game against the Packers, Colts star Reggie Wayne was rendered virtually invisible by Antonio Cromartie. Wayne’s final line wasn’t bad — five catches for 87 yards — but almost all of that came during fourth-quarter garbage time. Wayne also lost a fumble on a day that was as forgettable for him as last week was memorable.

5.7: The Jets’ average gain per rushing attempt yesterday. They began the day averaging just 3.2 yards per rush, the third-lowest in the NFL.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I don’t feel like tugging on Superman’s cape today … but maybe tomorrow.”

— Rex Ryan, on Sunday’s showdown with the Patriots
