Starr Report

The November issue of Women’s Health Magazine features an interview with cover girl Giada De Laurentiis, in which the Food Network star (“Giada at Home”) gives her personal tips on how to throw an epic party — and how to be a guest at your own shindig.

Among the De Laurentiis quotes that weren’t included in the magazine piece:

* “I don’t eat a lot of anything. A little bit of everything, but not a lot of everything. Small meals all day long.

* “I would eat chocolate all day long. I also like rose wine.”

* “Best beauty tip would be manicured fingernails and lipstick.”

* “Best advice was from my grandfather. ‘Work hard, play hard and smile a lot while doing it.’ And I think the smile makes me happy.”

Musical guests will include Alicia Keys, Sharon Jones and the Avett Brothers with the Brooklyn Philharmonic.

It’s been a busy few weeks for M. Sanjayan. The CBS News Science & Environment contributor recently returned from spending 10 days living in the Amazon’s “intangible” zone with a Huaroni tribe — and just yesterday — spent the day moderating all-day panels at MIT featuring the Dalai Lama.

This Friday, Sanjayan will host a (free) virtual field trip to east Africa for 6-8th grade students from all over the country under the auspices of The Nature Conservancy (he’s the organization’s lead scientist).

Oh, yeah — he’s also working on his next CBS News piece, which will air soon.

Disney Channel clocked in with some big numbers last Friday night with two new offerings.

First up was its original movie, “Girl Vs. Monster,” which snared nearly 5 million viewers, tops for the night among cable telecasts and the year’s second-most-watched in kids 2-11 (2.8 million viewers).

That, in turn, generated strong numbers for the new Disney Channel sitcom, “Dog With a Blog,” which became the year’s top-rated series launch across all target kid demos, including 2.6 million kids 2-11. It also corralled 4.5 million viewers (retaining 92 percent of its “Girl Vs. Monster” lead-in).
