The Yankees will likely tame Detroit in the playoffs — but they’re bombing at playing the field.
Tiger ace Justin Verlander, 29, is dating Sports Illustrated cover girl Kate Upton, 20, their proud grandparents confirmed over the weekend.
“[Kate] was at his first game in Detroit against Oakland,” the curvy bombshell’s grandfather, Stephen, told Celebuzz. “She has all of our support.”

Verlander’s grandfather made it clear he thinks it’s Upton who scored the home run by locking down his grandson.
“I heard he has been on dates with a Sports Illustrated girl. I saw a photo — she’s beautiful,” Richard Verlander Sr. told the gossip Web site. “They make a good-looking pair because he’s a good-looking man, too.
“Justin is a fine boy, and whoever he ends up with is lucky,” he continued. “He’s not only a great baseball player — he’s a great guy.”
Meanwhile, the Yankee stars are juggling B-list lineups instead of the A-list actresses that usually occupy their lineup cards.
After high-profile relationships with Kate Hudson, Madonna and Cameron Diaz, Alex Rodriguez is now dating a former wrestling diva, Torrie Wilson, 36.
And it doesn’t sound like he plans to let things to get too serious with his new bodybuilder.
“I think my new hero is George Clooney,” Rodriguez, 37, told “The Insider” when asked about any plans to settle down. “He’s my new role model. I think he’s done it right.”
Actress Minka Kelly, 32, who last season cheered on rumored fiancé Derek Jeter, has also moved on. The captain has been linked to Ralph Lauren model Hannah Davis, 22. She joins a long list of Jeter paramours that includes Mariah Carey, Jessica Biel and Tyra Banks.
Not to mention all the one-night stands rumored to be handed a swag bag of goodies, including a signed baseball, after a night of passion at Jeter’s bachelor pad.
Jeter and Davis, who have been spotted flirting at trendy hot spots like Double Seven in the Meatpacking District, have tried to avoid attention by arriving and leaving separately.
The only actress left in the Yankee stands is “Animal Practice” star Joanna Garcia, 33, who married Nick Swisher last year.
