Up‘lift’ing special delivery

Bet she’s cute as a button.

A Bronx mom gave birth to a baby girl earlier than expected Sunday — in an elevator in her apartment building.

Ninfa Ramirez, 31, had gone to Jacobi Medical Center at around 7 p.m. Sunday with labor pains, proud papa Armando Ortiz, 34, yesterday told The Post.

But nurses told the couple that it wasn’t time yet so they should go home, Ortiz said.

He said he had barely dropped off his wife at their Bronxdale apartment and headed to a pharmacy when she summoned him back so they could return to the hospital.

They got into their building elevator, Ortiz said, but “when we got to the first floor, she said, “The baby’s coming’!”

Ortiz and two friends wound up delivering little Monserrath Ortiz right on the spot in the elevator.

“It was a big surprise,” said the beaming mom.

Ortiz called the unorthodox delivery “a beautiful experience.’’

The 9-pound 8-ounce baby and her exhausted mom were taken to Jacobi by ambulance to recover.

Despite the hospital’s apparent miscalculation, Ortiz said he harbors no ill will.

“Now, I’m happy,” Ortiz said of the chaotic experience. “Everything is OK.”
