‘Mini’ intro likely Oct. 23

Apple has a little more it wants to show us.

That “little” reference comes from the long-awaited invite Apple finally sent out yesterday — and presumably alludes to the iPad Mini.

Apple is hosting an event Oct. 23, and is likely to show off a 7.8-inch iPad in a price range that competes with the sub-$200 offerings from Google and Amazon.

“We’ve got a little more to show you,” Apple said in its press invite.

Apple watchers expect the device to hit stores around Nov. 1. There have been reports that Apple has ordered 10 million iPad Minis for sale during the holidays.

The mini might not have some of the flashier components like retina-display screens, which come with the full-size iPad.

Of course, Apple also could have another little surprise for iFans, who also are awaiting a 13-inch retina display Macbook.

Apple shares rose 2.4 percent yesterday to $649.79 in anticipation of the iPad Mini.

Shares of the world’s most valuable company have struggled since Apple’s big debut last month, the iPhone 5, which has been beset by supply issues. Consumers found the device scarce in stores and wait times for delivery long.

Analysts have scaled back estimates for how many iPhones were sold during the fiscal fourth quarter, which ended in September, and lowered their predictions for sales in the current quarter.

Yesterday, an analyst with William Blair cut his iPhone sales forecast for the quarter ended Sept. 29 to 26.5 million from 33 million. Apple reports earnings Oct. 25.

“Consumers have faced significant delays in receiving the phone,” wrote analyst Anil Doradla, who predicted Apple would sell 45 million iPhones this quarter, down from 46 million earlier.
