Mets’ Dickey OK after surgery

R.a. Dickey underwent successful surgery yesterday in Philadelphia by Dr. William Meyers to repair a core muscle injury sustained during the season.

The Mets 37-year-old knuckleballer is expected to need about six weeks recovery time. The Mets will likely pick up Dickey’s 2013 option and sign him to a multi-year contract extension in the coming weeks.

Dickey compared his injury to a sports hernia. He said he pitched most of the season with varying levels of discomfort.

Dickey finished 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA and is a strong candidate for the NL Cy Young award.
