Etch: With a linoleum cutter, define the eye by etching around the ball to create a classic jack-o’-lantern shape. Don’t go too deep — just about ¹/8-inch deep will complement the eyeballs well.

Design: Create teeth definition with a variety of sizes of paring knifes and clay loops. Use the biggest blades first to create a basic structure (such as the outline of each tooth), then go back over with smaller tools for the little details (gum lines, tooth ridges, etc.). Voila!
