Fall of the house of Ruth: Sweeping out the Yankees

Alex Rodriguez

The Issue: The Detroit Tigers’ defeat of the New York Yankees in the ALCS last week, and A-Rod’s future.

Regarding The Post headline “Dear Yankees, We Don’t Date Losers! Signed, New Yorkers” (Oct. 19), keep in mind that, despite being swept out of the playoffs by the Detroit Tigers due to their anemic hitting, the Yankees still led the American League in wins and won the division series over the Baltimore Orioles.

Perhaps in the future, the Yankees should tell reporters, “We don’t bother with front-runners.” Tony Roccamo

Without The Boss, George Steinbrenner, the Yankees are just another baseball team, and not a very good one.

A lot of the public may have disagreed with The Boss, but you certainly can’t dismiss the results of his hands-on management.

At some point, one of the owners must step up and take control.

Learn from The Boss.

The Yankees’ radio voice, John Sterling, will have to shelve his scream of “The Yankees Win!” if they play like they did in the ALCS and win only about 80 games next season.

His witticisms of “Robinson Cano, don’t you know” and “Swisher-licious” will seem very hollow if the team doesn’t improve as a whole.Ray Hackinson

Never have I been so embarrassed to be a Yankee fan.

It was bad enough to have the Yankees get bounced out of the playoffs, but it was how it was done: four games to none. And they were spanked in Game 4.

The problem, besides a lack of hitting, is a lack of heart, plain and simple.

Right now, the Yankees are just a bunch of high-paid players. Remember the Yankees in the ’90s, when they won three World Series in a row? They didn’t have a bunch of high-priced talent, but those guys did have a lot of heart.

Maybe today’s Yankees should take notes from that team.

To put the Yankees’ defeat in further perspective, at no point during any of the four games against the Tigers did the Yankees manage to secure a lead.

If I am not mistaken, this has happened only four other times in post-season play: the World Series of 1963, 1966, 1989 and 2004.

This was not a defeat; it was a humiliation.

Lately, The Post’s articles about Alex Rodriguez have not been to my liking.

I am a huge fan of the Yankees. I will continue to be, and I will follow A-Rod for his remaining time in New York.

He goes above and beyond on and off the field and is a great human being. I know he is having issues now, but who doesn’t?

Do all Yankee fans a favor, and leave Alex alone.

I have been a Yankee fan since 1950. Never have I been so disgusted with this team.

This 2012 team is composed of a group of overpaid, underperfoming failures, led by “A-Fraud.”

It’s time for the fans to boycott this team and its outrageous ticket prices. Richard Maina

A-Rod must not accept a trade to Miami and should come back to the Yankees for an awesome 2013. He cannot go out this way.

He is a great player and deserves a chance to redeem himself in pinstripes. He’s on target to reach 3,000 hits next year and move closer to 700 home runs — he has to do it in a Yankee uniform.

A-Rod’s legacy to the game and New York is hanging in the balance this off-season.

If he leaves New York, he will be viewed unfairly as a quitter. If he stays in New York, he has a chance to go down as one of the greatest Yankees of all time.

You know the Billy Joel classic “New York State of Mind”?

Well, the Yankees seemed more in a “Catatonic State of Mind.”
