Plaxico suit eyes home grab

A Florida woman is threatening to take one of Plaxico Burress’ homes if the disgraced Super Bowl hero doesn’t cough up the $160,000 he owes her.

The unemployed ex-NFL wide receiver was ordered by a Broward County judge to pay Alise Smith, 31, for car-crash injuries she proved in a civil suit against him.

Burress’ insurance had lapsed by May 16, 2008, when his Mercedes slammed into Smith’s car as she pulled out of a Florida Turnpike toll plaza.

Former Giant and Jet Burress, 35, is short on cash but owns houses in Virginia Beach and Lighthouse Point, Fla., plus a condo in Coconut Creek, Fla., Smith’s lawyer Anthony Quackenbush said.

If Burress doesn’t come through with money in two weeks, Quackenbush said his client will have no choice but to go after his homes. Burress, who missed the 2009 and 2010 seasons in prison on a gun rap, was not re-signed by the Jets after last season and is now lobbying NFL teams for a job,

“I’m rooting for him [to get signed] as much as he is at this point,” Quackenbush said. “That’ll money my client’s pocket.”

Plaxico’s lawyer Adam Swickle said both sides are still in settlement talks: “I can not comment on this other than to say there is an appeal pending and the parties are working together to resolve the matter.”
