A very Lombardi Xmas

B’way star to narrate ‘Story’

Dan Lauria charmed thousands as Vince Lombardi on Broadway two years ago, and now Lauria is back in another project, as the narrator in the new musical “A Christmas Story,” which opens in November.

Though the Long Island native is excited to be back on Broadway, he is relieved he can openly support his Giants again without worry from Packers fans.

“[Giants offensive coordinator] Kevin Gilbride and I were teammates at Southern Connecticut and I have always bled Giant blue, and the success we had with ‘Lombardi’ had a great deal from what the organization did to support the play,” Lauria said. “I’m hoping we get a similar response for this great new work as well, and that athletes, who love the movie, come on out and see us again.”

Peter Billinsgley, who starred in the movie, is one of the producers of the play. For all the details go to http://achristmasstorythemusical.com.

Yanks team with Mets for cause

The Yankees have gone to bat to make the Nov. 1 fundraiser for longtime Mets employee Shannon Forde a rousing success.

Forde, who has been with the Mets for 18 years, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Yankees have donated a signed Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez bat.

The club also has offered a top item for the online auction, which is being run in conjunction with the dinner which will be held at Westmount Country Club in Woodland Park, N.J. There will be 20 top items that will run on http://www.charitybuzz.com/auctions/shannon until Nov. 7.

The Yankees package is one day in the team’s PR department in 2013.

The winner gets a tour of the Stadium, a chance to deliver game notes to manager Joe Girardi, attend press conferences, watch batting practice on the field, sit in the press box with the Yankees PR staff, spend an inning in the Yankees radio and television booth and receive a personal scoreboard message.

The package is open to high school and college students only.

Other online items include a 30-minute hitting lesson from David Wright, a pitching lesson from Johan Santana and a weekend trip to the Mets spring training home in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

For information on the dinner go to http://www.hopeshinesforshannon.com.

Leewood tourney has ‘links’ to Babe

Without a doubt, Babe Ruth remains the most celebrated member in the 90-year history of Leewood Country Club in Eastchester. Just outside the men’s locker room, there’s a room in the clubhouse decidated to the Babe, full of his pictures and memorabilia. And legend has it a nearby one-lane underpass under the railroad tracks was built expressly for Ruth, so he could make a quick getaway to Yankee Stadium on the Bronx River Parkway.

Last week, Leewood, which just underwent an extensive renovation from architect Dave Heatwole, held its annual Bambino Invitational, a one-day shootout won at 1-under 69 by Corey Harris, of Washington (Conn.) Golf Club. The Babe himself was quite a golfer. According to Leewood head pro Dean Johnson, the Sultan of Swat routinely drove the 14th hole, a 307-yard par-4 that plays over water.

Kravitz pens Jets anthem

The Jets and Lenny Kravitz are the latest team to create an original song for the Pepsi NFL Anthems program. The song “Like A Jet” will be featured during all Jets home games and in a television commercial breaking today during Jets-Patriots on CBS.

In addition, Aerosmith penned the song “Legendary Child” for the Patriots, available free for download at PepsiAnthems.com, joining original anthems by Kid Rock (Lions), Kelly Clarkson (Cowboys), Ice Cube (Raiders) and Travie McCoy (Giants) and a remix of Pittsburgh’s “Black and Yellow” (by Wiz Khalifa).

Ads featuring the other anthems will debut next Sunday in Oakland, Detroit, Dallas and Pittsburgh and air throughout the remainder of the regular season.
