Man stabbed to death after trying to break up fight in Bronx

A man was fatally stabbed this morning after trying to break up a fight between two people in The Bronx, authorities said.

The fight, between a man and a woman, broke out in the lobby of a Melrose building on East 151st Street just around 6 a.m. and then spilled outside, police said.

“I heard people arguing…They were screaming,” said a 76-year-old woman who would only give her first name, Ana.

“You could hear they were angry,” she said.

Victim James Lewis, 35, stepped in on the woman’s behalf, and the hothead knifed him several times in the chest, cops said.

The victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he died, police said. Alleged killer Miguel Flores, 37, was arrested and is charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

It was not immediately clear whether the victim knew the other two people, but police said that none of the three lived in the building.
