Yankees’ Teixeira, Cano awarded Gold Gloves

The Yankees may have some question marks in their infield as they head to 2013, but the defense on the right side isn’t one of them. Both Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano won Gold Glove Awards last night.

It was Teixeira’s fifth Gold Glove of his career and third as a Yankee after the first baseman finished the season with a career-best .999 fielding percentage by making just one error in 1,055 chances during the regular season.

Cano was awarded a Gold Glove for the second time of his career, having also won with Teixeira and Derek Jeter in 2009. The second baseman made six errors and finished with a .992 fielding percentage, good for second best in the league.

He is only the second Yankee to win a Gold Glove at second, joining Bobby Richardson, who won five straight from 1961-65.
