Armed MTA guard shoots man trying to break into Brooklyn subway station

An armed MTA guard, tasked with removing cash from MetroCard machines, shot a man trying to break into a subway station, officials said,

The incident happened at 2 a.m. Wednesday when the guard was at the Winthrop Street station in Brooklyn when he noticed a man with a screw driver attempting to get in.

Then the man got violent when the guard confronted him.

“The guy came at [the MTA guard] with a screwdriver and [the guard] shot him,” said an MTA spokesman. The suspect was taken to Kings County Hospital and was in stable condition.

The guards are typically armed because they handle large amount of cash.

The incident remains under investigation.
