Swamped Gerritsen: We should have been A-listers

It’s the forgotten disaster zone.

Brooklyn’s Gerritsen Beach got whacked with major flooding that swallowed homes and knocked out power — but was only deemed a low-priority Zone B disaster area.

Some residents tried to scramble to safety at the last minute as gushing swells as high as 6 feet coursed through the town located on a peninsula next to Floyd Bennett Field.

Stranded residents fumed yesterday that the city hadn’t designated their community as a Zone A — the highest priority that would have given them time to safely evacuate.

The flooding got so bad that a houseboat from Breezy Point ended up in Gerritsen Beach.

Tony Lauer, his wife, daughter Marlana Triggs and her son tried to escape. “We go to the corner and . . . the car was floating,” Lauer said.

Fighting back tears, his daughter recalled, “My 9-year-old said, ‘Mom, are we going to die?’ ”
