Chris’ twisted comments: heartless and unnecessary

The Issue: MSNBC show host Chris Matthews’ remark that he was happy Hurricane Sandy had hit.

***

When I heard the vile Chris Matthews shamelessly exult over the death-dealing Superstorm Sandy that presumably gave President Obama the boost in popularity he didn’t deserve and probably didn’t need, I wanted nothing more than to slap his unsanitary trap with the force of a bazooka (“Chris Matthews’ Ode to Joy,” Editorial, Nov. 8).

Thank you to The Post for doing it for me.

Matthews’ callous disregard for those who suffered and died as a result of Sandy reflects his belief that re-electing Obama trumped all other concerns.

In his petty little world, the end justified the means. There should be a special place in hell for people like Matthews. Gerald Jacobs

Matthews’ true colors have come out.

The statement he made about how happy he was that Sandy hit and the “good politics” that happened prove what an arrogant know-it-all he is.

Was the party getting anxious that its “idol” might lose the election?

We have heard that Romney and other GOP members are “out of touch” with the average American.

Now we can safely say how true it is of the far-left media and some members of the Democratic Party. And now the spin begins to try to rectify his statement. It’s too late; the damage is done. Sam King

I am the liaison to public safety in my community, and the devastation I saw first-hand in my town alone was unbelievable.

For Matthews to state that he was happy about the storm because it got Obama re-elected is unconscionable. It just goes to show how out of touch he is with the real world. He tried to back-pedal by claiming he was tired, as if no one else is.

As a commentator, does he not read the news or see the telecasts showing people who have lost everything, who have nowhere to go and no food to eat?

Thank God for the citizens who have opened up their hearts, their homes and their wallets to help those so desperately in need.

He should be fired and placed into the news channel Hall of Shame.

Matthews’ outrageous comments should not surprise anyone.

His personal attacks, hateful comments and openly liberal bias are his trademarks.

His character assassinations are well known, yet his network continues to pay him, regardless of his poor ratings.

Matthews has no understanding of the true middle class, although he criticizes others.

He should be fired immediately for his callous comments when people were tragically killed and financially devastated by Hurricane Sandy. Matthews is the perfect example of what is wrong with this country.

As a professional journalist and “seeker of truth,” Matthews provided his non-biased opinion of the thanks we should all give for Mother Nature and the death and destruction she brought to help ensure the election outcome.

Like many other families, I will leave my in-laws’ home to spend another cold night at my own home, which has been without heat, hot water and electricity since the hurricane.

Our family realizes the extreme price many others faced this past week and consider ourselves more than lucky.

The events of the past week have exposed so many people around us for who they truly are — great friends and family who have provided us with many necessities — just as they exposed Matthews for who he really is.

MSNBC should give Matthews a choice: get fired or go to the Rockaways to help the families with the destruction the storm inflicted.

Matthews should be fired. Period.
