NJ casinos feeling bettor

ATLANTIC CITY — Casinos in this city got the OK from Gov. Chris Christie to reopen yesterday, less than a week after closing in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy, and some moved quickly to start recouping losses.

Christie also ordered that roads into Atlantic City reopen.

The Golden Nugget opened before noon, and the Borgata and the Tropicana planned to open before the end of the day.

Among the first customers at the Golden Nugget was Joyce Dean, 63, an Atlantic City resident.

“I was cooped up with my sister,” she said. “I’m so happy to get out and resume my daily visit [here].”

“We employ a large majority of the people that live in Atlantic City and the surrounding barrier islands,” Golden Nugget General Manager Tom Pohlman said.

“Unfortunately, our people don’t get paid if they don’t work.”
