NCAA: Sankey leads Washington over Cal

Bishop Sankey ran for a career-high 189 yards and two touchdowns to give Washington its first road win in more than a year, 21-13 over California last night in Berkeley, Calif.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught eight passes for 154 yards and a touchdown for the Huskies (5-4, 3-3 Pac-12).

Penn State administrators Gary Schultz and Tim Curley were arraigned on new charges accusing them of hushing up child sexual abuse allegations against former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. The new charges are endangering the welfare of children, obstruction and conspiracy.

Former Penn State president Graham Spanier’s arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday.

Three Pitt football players, including starting running back Ray Graham, will play today against No.4 Notre Dame despite being charged with simple assault and conspiracy in connection with an incident last month involving three other students.

GOLF: Oosthuizen breaks mark set by Tiger

Louis Oosthuizen shot a 9-under 63 at the HSBC Champions in Shenzhen, China to build a five-shot lead and break a World Golf Championships record that previously belonged to Tiger Woods.

Along with opening a five-shot lead over Ernie Els, Oosthuizen reached 16-under 128. That’s the lowest score to par through 36 holes in any World Golf Championships event since they began in 1999.

Woods had a 15-under 125 at Firestone in 2000, and he was at 15-under 127 in 2006 at the American Express Championship.

Els, who skipped the PGA Grand Slam of Golf early last week because of a minor ankle injury, had a 63 that vaulted him from 19th place into a tie for second with Adam Scott of Australia, who had a 68.

In Scottsdale, Ariz., Jay Haas matched the Champions Tour record with a 10-under 60 to open a five-stroke lead in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Tom Lehman was second after a 63.

In Shima, Japan, South Korea’s Jiyai Shin and Japan’s Ayako Uehara shot 4-under 68 to share the first-round lead in the LPGA Tour’s Mizuno Classic.

NBA: Mavs cut Curry after just two games

The Mavericks announced they’ve waived journeyman center Eddy Curry and replaced him on the 15-man roster with newly signed free-agent center Troy Murphy. In two games, Curry averaged 4.5 points and two rebounds in 12.5 minutes.
