Bam, Rom fit to be tied in the home stretch

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The race couldn’t be closer as President Obama and Mitt Romney hurtle into the final campaign stretch.

They’re tied at 46 percent in a national Reuters/Ipsos poll released yesterday.

A Rasmussen Reports daily tracking poll also showed them at 48-48.

“It’s somewhat surprising that heading into the final weekend of the election season, we are unable to confidently project who is likely to win the White House,” said pollster Scott Rasmussen.

In the Reuters poll, Obama was slightly ahead in three crucial battleground states, but his leads were within the poll’s margin of error.

It showed Obama ahead of Romney by 48-45 percent in Virginia, 47-45 in Ohio and 48-46 in Florida.

They were 49-49 in must-win Ohio, according to the Rasmussen poll.

Romney needs to win the Buckeye State or else face an uphill battle to collect the 270 electoral votes needed to capture the White House.

The Reuters poll also showed the candidates pulling even in Colorado, with 46 percent each.

All of these states are poised to play a crucial role next week.

Obama’s narrow lead in the swing states could give him a slight advantage on Election Day, said Reuters pollsters.

Still, an ABC News/Washington Post poll found Romney supporters are more excited about the election and think the country is going in the wrong direction.
