Nanny charged in Upper West Side child slayings

An Upper West Side nanny was charged with murder last night in the butchering of two adorable children in their luxurious West 75th Street apartment last month, police said.

Yoselyn Ortega, 50, was slapped with two counts each of first- and second-degree murder for stabbing Lucia and Leo Krim, ages 6 and 2, on Oct. 25.

Ortega didn’t acknowledge the horrific act during a bedside interview yesterday with cops and prosecutors at New York Hospital.

But she admitted that she was having money troubles, law-enforcement sources told The Post.

“She said she was concerned about money. She wanted more money,” a source said.

The slain children were found in the bathtub by their mother, Marina Krim, who stumbled upon the scene as the nanny stabbed herself in the neck, cops said.

During an interview with a prosecutor, Ortega appeared nervous, but declined to have a lawyer present, the source said.

Ortega denied that anyone else stabbed her, but she wouldn’t admit to stabbing herself, the source added. She also denied that she was mad at the children’s parents.

But Ortega had previously whined to cops that the Krims, who went out of their way to give the troubled woman more work, were overworking her by giving her an extra five hours a week of housekeeping chores, sources said.
