McCain immig push

WASHINGTON — Arizona Sen. John McCain yesterday joined the growing chorus of prominent Republicans backing comprehensive immigration reform, which usually includes a path to citizenship for illegals.

McCain tweeted: “I agree with the calls for comprehensive immigration reform.”

He hasn’t been a vocal supporter since President George W. Bush pushed it, only to be blocked by Republicans.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) also said it’s “time to get this done.”

President Obama’s capturing 71 percent of the Latino vote helped persuade Republicans to rethink their stance.
