Columbia roars back vs. Cornell

Sean Brackett threw three touchdown passes and Columbia scored the last 27 points to stun Cornell 34-17 yesterday in Manhattan.

The Lions (3-6, 2-4 Ivy League), coming off a 69-0 loss at Harvard, trailed 17-7 shortly before halftime. The first of Luke Eddy’s field goals, a 44-yarder on the last play of the first half, kick-started a scoring avalanche.

Marcorus Garrett, who led Columbia in rushing with 187 yards, got 86 of them on one play. His long-distance scoring jaunt tied it 17-17 early in the third quarter. The Lions took the lead for good on Brackett’s 22-yard touchdown pass to Hamilton Garner for a 24-17 lead.

Luke Hagy led Cornell (4-5, 2-4) with 124 rushing yards and the touchdown that gave the Big Red a 17-7 lead late in the first half.

Wagner 31, Holy Cross 30

In Staten Island, Nick Doscher found Cody Morgan for a touchdown with 18 seconds left to rally Wagner (7-3) past Holy Cross (1-9).

With Wagner trailing 30-17 in the fourth quarter, Doscher took over, finding Williams for a 10-yard touchdown with 7:09 remaining, cutting the lead to 30-24.

On Holy Cross’ next possession, Jarrett Dieudonne forced Steven Elder to fumble, to set up the winning drive.

Dominique Williams finished with 173 yards and a TD on 22 carries for Wagner.

St. Francis 45, Monmouth 31

In West Long Branch, N.J., John Kelly passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to help St. Francis of Pennsylvania (4-6, 3-4 NEC) beat Monmouth (4-5, 3-3).

Kyle Frazier led the Hawks with 246 yards passing and a touchdown, but turned the ball over twice.

Dayton 21, Marist 17

In Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Will Bardo threw two touchdown passes to help Dayton build a 21-7 halftime lead, and the Flyers (6-5, 5-3 Pioneer Football League) held on for a victory over Marist (3-6, 2-4).
