Woman stabbed to death in East Harlem, then apartment is set ablaze; another man also injured

A woman was found stabbed to death and a man was in critical condition after their Park Avenue apartment was set on fire, sources said.

Neighbors said they heard screaming in the East Harlem building around 4 p.m. and smelled smoke soon after. Marian Garcia, 24, ran outside and saw a lifeless woman laying on the stairwell between the ninth and 10th floor with a younger man covered in blood standing over her.

Garcia and other neighbors escorted the man, believed to be the woman’s son, to the ninth floor landing.

“I said, ‘What happened,” she told the Post. “He wouldn’t say anything. He just kept pacing back and forth.”

Firefighters responded to the scene around 4:15 p.m. and rushed the woman and one man Harlem Hospital, sources said.

The woman died and the man, believed to be her relative, is in critical condition.

A motive wasn’t immediately clear and police did not release information about a suspect.
