Hollywood can be a difficult place for actors to find work as they advance into their golden years. But on the talk show “Name Check with Michael Riedel,” Jacki Weaver said, “I’m 65 and I don’t mind.”
It may be that attitude that led the native Australian and veteran of the stage to Hollywood success in the comedy “The Five-Year Engagement” and her Oscar-noninated role in “Animal Kingdom.”
This time around, Weaver plays the onscreen mother of Bradley Cooper and wife of Robert De Niro in the new Oscar-buzzy film “Silver Linings Playbook.” The actress described working with the “amazing” De Niro and the “intelligent” Bradley — who she said will surprise fans of “The Hangover” — as an amazing experience.
Weaver said she enjoys taking on many skins. Her pursuit of change may be a reason to take on risqué roles like “a lesbian d–e” with huge sagging breasts on the Australian produced musicial “Priscilla Queen of the Desert.”
