Sony let Michael Jackson, not Mark Wahlberg, take private plane out of NY after 9/11

When Michael Jackson saw the towers come down on 9/11, his first thought was to get his kids out of New York as quickly as possible.

But even with all his fame and resources, one thing stood in his way: Mark Wahlberg.

According to the new book “Untouchable,” after holing up for several days with friends in New Jersey, Jackson arranged for his family and entourage to meet him (and the $500,000 in emergency cash he had arranged to carry) at the White Plains airport, where his record label, Sony, had a private jet waiting to take him to LA.

When he arrived, though, he found Wahlberg and his entourage planning to board the same jet, which was a strictly one-entourage seater.

The two camps got into it and a shouting match ensued until Sony sent word that the bigger celebrity — Jackson — had won. An angry Wahlberg “stormed off” to wait for another plane, but then Jackson decided he’d rather take a bus, and sent his entourage on the plane without him, imploring them to take off before Wahlberg returned. A bus was hired, but Jackson changed his mind again before it arrived. He sent his mother and other relatives back to California by bus, and forced Sony to rent yet another jet for him and his children.
