Mobile forecast gets you prepped

The nor’easter that blew through New York this past week was probably just a precursor of the many snowstorms headed to the tri-state area over the next few months.

To figure out whether you should bring an umbrella to work, wear snow boots or just stay home, you may want to check the weather with a mobile app of the same name.

Check the Weather features a simple interface along with layers of detailed weather data. The main screen displays the current temperature and conditions, a three-day forecast, the temperature change throughout the day displayed as a line graph, and the sunrise and sunset times and moon phase.

By swiping the main screen on your phone, you can see more comprehensive weather data like hourly details about the temperature and possible precipitation, or a 10-to-16-day forecast with conditions and high and low temperatures.

The app provides weather information worldwide in English, Chinese, French, Spanish, Japanese and other languages.

In the US, users can also access hazardous weather alerts from the National Weather Service and a radar map, as well as a detailed rain forecast, thanks to an integration with the Dark Sky app, which tells you how much precipitation to expect over the next hour based on your precise location.

Check the Weather is available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and it costs $1.99. The app is also optimized for the iPhone 5.
