Dave & Oprah sold out

And the No. 1 reason you’re not getting a ticket to see David Letterman interview his longtime TV “frenemy” Oprah Winfrey at his alma mater, Ball State: Students have grabbed all 3,300 seats.

Faculty, staff and members of the public shut out of the main room at the Muncie, Ind., campus can still watch at a nearby building, where closed-circuit TV will show the hourlong Nov. 26 chat.

The “Late Show” legend is a frequent visitor to campus, playing host to his David Letterman Distinguished Professional Lecture and Workshop Series.

“They clearly have a legacy of good natured ribbing, but they obviously have great respect for each other and it’ll be interesting to see that play out,” said Ball State associate VP Tony Proudfoot.

Students who watch Letterman now and grew up coming home to Winfrey’s daytime show said they’re happy to see the TV icons in person.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that Oprah will be in Muncie, this close to home, up close and personal,” freshman Gabrielle Costello told The Star Press newspaper of Muncie. “Everyday, my mom would be watching Oprah right when I was getting home from school. I loved Oprah. I can only imagine what it will be like in person.”

“Dave’s not chopped liver, either, I also watch Dave’s show. It’s awesome how he’s coming back.” she added.
