Jets’ Keller laments ‘worst game’

SEATTLE — Dustin Keller did not mince words after it was over.

“This was worst game that I’ve played in my career,’’ the Jets tight end said.

Keller is one of the Jets’ veteran leaders on offense and Mark Sanchez’s most dependable targets, yet he was one of the most guilty culprits in their embarrassing 28-7 loss to the Seahawks yesterday at CenturyLink Field.

Keller had two false start penalties, one of which pushed the Jets back from a third-and-goal from the Seattle 1-yard line in the second quarter and ended up costing them points, and he had a dropped pass on a crucial third down.

He also failed to come back to a Sanchez pass in the end zone moments after that false start, which allowed Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman to intercept the Sanchez pass at the goal line and take at least three points off the board for the Jets, who would have had an easy field goal attempt on fourth down.

The game was tied 7-7 at the time and the Jets never came close to scoring again.

“When that ball is in the air I need to come back to it and I need to make sure either I’m catching that ball or nobody’s catching it,’’ Keller said of the interception. “Obviously, there are a lot of what-ifs, but I need to make that play. I didn’t see the defender breaking on it, but still I need to do my best to get in there and try to break that up.’’

Keller, who finished with three catches for 47 yards, was perplexed by how poorly he played, because he said he felt great entering the game.

“I had a good week of practice,’’ he said. “It just wasn’t a good day.’’
