Jets finally get pass rush going

SEATTLE — The Jets did a good job of accomplishing their goal of “rattling” Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson.

They sacked Wilson four times after entering the game with just 12 sacks on the season.

“We knew we had to keep him off his spot,” defensive end Mike DeVito said. “Mike [Pettine] and Rex [Ryan] ordered up some great defenses, and the stuff worked.”

The defense scored the Jets’ only points of the game on a Wilson fumble caused by DeVito that defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson scooped up and returned 21 yards for a touchdown.

Linebacker Bart Scott and cornerback Ellis Lankster also had sacks. Lankster’s sack caused a fumble the Seahawks recovered. Linebackers Bryan Thomas and David Harris also combined for one sack.

The pass rush has been a problem for the Jets all season, but they found one yesterday.

The defense was upset it didn’t finish the game strong, allowing two fourth-quarter touchdowns.

“We didn’t finish,” DeVito said. “No matter what the situation is, we need to be the steady force on this team, and we weren’t able to put that consistent effort we had in the first half in the second half.”

* The Jets did not have as bad a day on special teams as they did two weeks ago against the Dolphins, but they had some problems again. Jeremy Kerley had a muffed punt return and Nick Folk had a kickoff that went out of bounds.

* RB Bilal Powell suffered a concussion in the game. … CB Isaiah Trufant hurt his knee and missed most of the game. … OLB Aaron Maybin was inactive for the first time this year. Maybin has been ineffective this season, with no sacks. The Jets had OLB Ricky Sapp active in his place. The other inactives were: QB Greg McElroy, RB Joe McKnight, G Caleb Schlauderaff, G Hayworth Hicks, TE Hayden Smith and NT Kenrick Ellis. … LB Bart Scott returned after missing the Miami game with an injured toe.

* The Jets are 3-5 all time in Seattle. They have not won there since Aug. 31, 1997, which was Bill Parcells’ first game as Jets coach.
