Hammer attack on shrink

A deranged man yesterday attacked a Manhattan psychiatrist with a sledgehammer and knife in his home office, police said.

Michael Weiss, 38, was meeting with Jacob Nolan in his 12th-floor office on West 57th Street at about 10.25 a.m. when Nolan apparently snapped and bashed him with the hammer before stabbing him, officials said.

Nolan, 20, was not one of Weiss’ patients, according to cops. He is the cousin of Weiss’ former girlfriend, with whom he has a child.

The fight involved paying tuition fees, a source told The Post.

Cops said Nolan went into Weiss’ bathroom and emerged with the sledgehammer.

Then, authorities said, he stabbed the shrink repeatedly with the knife before Weiss was able to wrestle it away from him.

Weiss managed to turn the tables on his attacker and stabbed Nolan in the left side of his chest, cops said.

Both were taken to New York Hospital in stable condition. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Nolan was charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Weiss has been practicing in New York City for more than a decade, according to his Web site.
