NBA: Bynum to miss five more weeks

76ers center Andrew Bynum will miss at least five more weeks because of a bone bruise in his right knee and may not play in a game until early January. … Brandon Jennings had 33 points in the Bucks’ 105-96 win over the Sixers.

Rajon Rondo had 20 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists in the Celtics’ 101-95 win over the Bulls. … Paul Millsap scored seven of his 34 points in the third overtime as the Jazz beat the Raptors 140-133. … LeBron James scored a season-high 38 points as the Heat beat the Rockets 113-110.

FOOTBALL: New playoff format OK’d for 2014

University presidents and conference commissioners ratified a four-team college football playoff system beginning in the 2014-15 season. ESPN, citing unidentified sources, reported that the biggest loser in the new, six-bowl Bowl Championship Series system will be the Big East Conference. Under the new format, the Big East will be demoted from the top tier of conferences that include the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC.

COLLEGE HOOPS: Fordham falls at Pittsburgh

J.J. Moore netted 20 points to lead Pittsburgh (2-0) in an 86-51 victory over Fordham (0-2). … Eli Carter came off the bench for 18 points to lead Rutgers (1-1) to an 88-62 win over Sacred Heart (1-1). …

GOLF: Rory, Tiger on PGA Tour ballot

Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods were among five players nominated for the PGA Tour player of the year award that will be voted on by their peers. Also on the ballot are Brandt Snedeker, Bubba Watson and Jason Dufner.
