$500M in the ‘Black Ops’

The new video game “Call of Duty: Black Ops II” has reaped more than $500 million in retail sales in the first 24 hours of its release.

That makes the latest version of the franchise the biggest entertainment release for the fourth straight year, makers Activision said.

“Sales for the ‘Call of Duty’ franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box-office receipts for ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Star Wars,’ the two most successful movie franchises of all time,” Activision Chief Executive Officer Bobby Kotick said yesterday.
