Foot, leg injuries slow Jets’ Kerley

Jeremy Kerley, the Jets’ leading receiver, missed practice Friday with two different injuries and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Rams.

According to coach Rex Ryan, Kerley is battling heel and hamstring woes. The coach expects the second-year wideout to be active, however.

“I do expect that. But he is questionable,” Ryan said. “That heel’s been bothering him. A little tightness in the hamstring.”

Kerley leads the Jets with 35 catches for a team-best 535 yards. If Kerley can’t play or is affected by his injuries, the next highest receiving totals are Dustin Keller’s 19 catches and 220 yards.

* In an interview Friday on WFAN, general manager Mike Tannenbaum said he’s not concerned about his future.

“I’m not worried about me right now. I’m the last thing I’m worried about,” he said. “I’m worried about this team and anything I could do to help.”

Tannenbaum also said he’s “sick [at] being 3-6. It’s not good enough.” Asked about Mark Sanchez, the GM replied, “He’s playing 3-6. It’s not good enough. … But he’s part of an offense.” Of Tim Tebow, Tannenbaum said, “Right now, the Tim Tebow decision is a 3-6 decision like everything else.”

* LB Calvin Pace missed practice for personal reasons, but Ryan said that shouldn’t affect his availability tomorrow. Besides Kerley, four Jets are questionable: RBs Joe McKnight (ankle) and Bilal Powell (concussion), LB Bart Scott (toe) and DT Sione Po’uha (back/ankle), but Ryan expects all four to be active.

WR Stephen Hill, who didn’t practice Wednesday or Thursday because of illness, worked fully yesterday and is probable.

* Asked about Rams offensive lineman Rob Turner’s claim his former team, the Jets, are similar to the Cubs because of how long it’s been since they’ve won a championship, Ryan cracked: “I expect that the [Hall of Fame Cub] double play combination of Tinkers to Evers to Chance are going to show up on Sunday in St. Louis.” Ryan added that “we’re bringing our mitts and here we come.”

* Safety Yeremiah Bell was not fined for an unnecessary roughness penalty last week against the Seahawks, saying.

“They didn’t send me a FedEx,” he said. “I didn’t think I deserved one.” Bell even said he was told by a referee, “Good play.”

When Bell asked why he was called for a penalty, he said he was told, “I had to.”
