Dead baby found at ‘day care’

A 2-month-old girl was found dead yesterday morning in a day-care center operated out of a decrepit Queens residence, authorities said.

The Department of Buildings shuttered two floors of the Elmhurst building owned by Wai Yee Cheng hours after cops discovered the tiny body of Jennifer Zheng in the building.

Police found the unconscious child shortly before 9 a.m. at 92-45 55th Ave.

She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead.

No criminality was initially suspected in the death, and the city medical examiner has yet to determine the cause of death.

The apartment had several cribs inside of it, police sources said.

The identities of the child’s relatives were not immediately known, and it was not clear whether the baby was related to the occupants of the apartment.

The DOB complaint said that cops reported a “possible illegal day care” being run inside the building.

The complaint cited an “illegal operation” on the second floor and a lack of exits on the third.

A woman identified by neighbors as the landlord declined to comment.

One neighbor said he didn’t know that there was a day care in the building.

“They are nice people — they always say hi. I had no idea it was a day care,” he said.
